For me it started with Raygen, A Raven wispy haired Kenner Blythe Doll I found at a thrift store near my home in August 2010 for $0.26. Yup, that was twenty six cents (including tax). Need I tell you I felt like I had won the lottery!
I was in a bad mood and needed to get out of the house. I didn't really feel like going into the thrift store that day but I knew it was a good way for me to do something mindless and decompress. Browsing the toy section was my favorite place to look for treasures. (I always thought Id out grow my love for toys but Im 34 and it hasn't happened yet).
I saw a bunch of barbie legs hanging off one of the shelves when I noticed a strange one face down with a big head. I grabbed her legs thinking to myself now why does she have such a big head. When I whipped the big headed thought barbie around to look at my mouth dropped, I couldn't believe it!!! ITS A BLYTHE DOLL!!! ORIGINAL CLOTHING AND All NO FLAWS!!!
I started to panic! She didn't have a price tag but then again none of the toys did. I kept panicking my mind racing. I needed to get out of the store with her before it wasn't real anymore. I wanted to race up to the register and throw down $20 bucks and run out of there as fast as I could (she was mine). Like a mad woman I was prepared to fight myself out of the store with her. I irrationally though for sure someone would see me with her and try take her from me, or one of the staff would say Oh No you cant have that doll she doesn't have a price tag on her. My heart continued to race as I thought the best plan would be to for go all other possible treasures in that store and bee line it for the register before I got struck by lightning!
I tried to push all my irrational thoughts out of my mind and some how managed to behave like a grown woman. I heavy heartedly placed her on the counter for the cashier to examine (it was hard to let go of her). She curiously examined her. Surely any moment she would try to claim her for her own. My heart continued to race. "She's sweet."said the cashier as she typed in my total and said "that will be $0.26". I thought I was going to pass out. I was over come with guilt. I so badly wanted to confess to her NO SHE"S worth close to two grand. Instead I smiled and calmly gave her my $0.26. Told her I dint need a bag and some how calmly walked out the store my treasure clutched back in my hand.
My mind racing to get home and share my treasure with my doll collecting friends on line. They weren't going to believe it.I still couldn't believe it! My irrational mind was determined I would be in a car accident on the way home. They would find me with my doll all crunched up in my car and trow her away not ever knowing what a treasure she was...Luckily for me that didn't happen and I survived that day.LOL.I was able to get home and start sharing my great doll story with doll collectors all over the world.
I was so excited I couldn't keep my big mouth shut and had to tell my husband her possible value. He of course though I should sell her. After mulling it over shortly I told him she was my coffin money. When I died he could sell her and pay for my funeral. Until then I would be enjoying my funeral money. : )
This story is amazing. I can't believe you found a Kenner for that price, it must have been fate :D
